1. Get 1% Better Everyday

This first point is inspired by James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits. Clear emphasizes that while a 1% improvement may not seem significant at first, it can add up over time and be beneficial in the long run.

Think about it like compound interest, compound interest is when you earn interest on the money you saved and earned. For example, say you put 10,000 dollars into a high-yield savings account that offered a 4% APY. By the end of the year, you would be at $10,400, and in year 2, you’d be at $10,800. So while 1 percent may seem like nothing now, the more you let it build, the greater returns it will have.

Clear calculated if you get 1 percent better every day for a year, you’ll end up 37 PERCENT BETTER by the time you’re done. It’s worth noting that if you consistently get 1 percent worse each day, you’ll eventually reach, if not come very close to 0 percent.

If you don’t know where to start, some good examples of getting 1% better every day may include:

  • Sticking to a diet
  • Going for a run
  • Reading a book
  • Self-educate
  • Sleeping early
  • Drinking more water
  • Waking up early

Becoming 1% better doesn’t mean performing massive actions every day. It means focusing on small actions that eventually lead to big results.

Remember, progress is different for everyone so don’t get discouraged if you feel like taking “small” actions every day isn’t benefiting you. The most successful people always think long-term, they take actions every day that will benefit them in the future.

“What starts as a small win or minor setback accumulates into something more“- James Clear

2. Believe YOU Deserve It

Change, wealth, fitness, and success need faith and the right mindset. It starts with YOU. If you don’t think you’re capable of earning riches or building the dream body you want, why continue? You must develop the mindset that you DESERVE large sums of money, a successful business, your dream body, and anything else you desire. Having the “ I deserve this “ and “ I will do this “ mindset is crucial to succeeding in life.

A mindset that consists of “It’s impossible“, “I don’t deserve this” or “That’s hard” favors failure because you don’t believe you can achieve such great work.

Everything starts with your way of thinking. Most people can’t fathom the thought of having millions of dollars or being worth millions. Why do you think that is? Their point of view isn’t in the right place. Nothing is impossible if you build the right mindset. Don’t let your family, friends, society, or social media construct your way of thinking, you are in control of how you think.

Change your mindset, you are the only one who needs to believe in yourself to fulfill your dreams. This is your life, not anyone else’s. A negative mindset only attracts negativity into your life. Be positive, and you’ll attract positivity.

“With confidence, you have won before you have started.” – Marcus Garvey

3. Take Action Today

I’d be lying if I never said something like “I’ll start tomorrow“, “Next week”, or start on said date. But the best time isn’t tomorrow or whenever we tell ourselves we’ll begin. The best time to start was yesterday because procrastination plays a significant role in failure. If you keep telling yourself you’ll do it but never act on it, you won’t be going anywhere.

Start today, and progress by 1% every day. If you want to get fit but procrastinate a lot, start by doing as little as 5 minutes and stop. It may be small but by doing 5 minutes every day, you turn it into a habit. And soon enough that 5 minutes turns into 10, and that 10 into 20, and that 20 into 40, and so on.

Starting today will put you ahead of everyone else. Most people talk about what they’re going to do but the next day comes around and they still aren’t doing anything. Start right now because once you do, you’ll build momentum. And when it’s time to work again, the habit of taking action would be developed making it easier to start.

Don’t wait for the “right” time, there is no such thing. Waiting only increases your chances of never taking action and never reaching your true potential.

Time is constantly moving. It doesn’t care if you’re tired, sad, lazy, etc. We are 5 months into the new year and it feels like it just started yesterday. So imagine if you keep on waiting, 5 years will go by and you’ll still be stuck in the same place. Take advantage of your time, build something, and don’t stop until you’re successful.

“None of it works unless YOU work. We have to do our part. If knowing is half the battle, action is the second half of the battle.” ― Jim Kwik

4. Become Disciplined and Consistent

What does becoming disciplined and consistent mean? It means you do the work even when you don’t feel like it and you do it every SINGLE day. The most successful people aren’t successful because they’re perfect, they’re successful because they are disciplined and consistent.

They too face laziness and procrastination but the reason why they are where they are is because they don’t let their feelings or mood encourage negative behavior. They have built a routine and stick to it every day no matter how they feel.

Train yourself to be disciplined and consistent. Set a goal or goals but also think about WHY you want to achieve those goals, this gives you motivation to act accordingly every single day. The motivation may fade away after a week or so but because you’ve been consistent every day, discipline will take over and you will continue to do the work.

On the days when you’re fighting against yourself, remember why you started and where you want to be. Achieving work that most people won’t ever attempt isn’t easy but it’s simple. Stay consistent, hungry, and disciplined and you will meet your goals.

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” – Jim Rohn

5. Don’t Quit

Quite the most overused words said when it comes to accomplishing something but it’s true, don’t quit. Many people get discouraged when they start something and fail, leading them to quit. They think a one-time failure means it’s over, but you need to fail to succeed. Failure shows you where you went wrong and how to fix it. When you fail, work to find the right solution.

Quitting entirely is the true definition of failure. It means you weren’t strong enough through the downs, and now you will never know what succeeding feels like. What if you were one failure away from success? Every successful person has failed, but they continue to carry on because if you really believe in something and want it with all your heart, there’s no other option than winning.

Thomas Edison created 10,000 failed prototypes of his electric bulb before succeeding. When asked about failing, he said “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” If Edison can “fail” 10,000 times, I believe you’re competent to fail 5,10, or even 20 times before you find what works for you.

You have to give yourself time, not everything will go perfectly. It’s like learning how to ride a bike, in the first couple of attempts you may fall or not be able to keep your balance but the more you do it, the better you get at it. The same applies to your first video, blog, or post. But the more you do these things, the better you will get at them, leading you to succeed.

“Work like there is someone working 24 hours a day to take it away from you.” —Mark Cuban

The Bottom Line

All this means nothing if you don’t take action and apply it to your life. It’s all up to you, believe in yourself and great things will come into your life. I wish all of you good luck and an easy journey to success. Thank you for your time and share this with those who you believe may need some tips on becoming successful.
